El laboratorio suizo Novartis busca seguir extendiendo su negocio en Latinoamérica. Y ahora sus ojos se posan en Brasil. Así lo anunció Joe Jimenez, CEO de la compañía en una entrevista a la revista brasilera Valor Económico.
“Brasil es uno de los principales países para la inversión de Novartis. Es que aquí la economía está creciendo y vemos que el acceso a la salud de la clase media está aumentando”, explicó Jiménez a la periodista Mónica Scaramuzzo.

A fines de noviembre la compañía firmó una carta de intención con el Ministerio de Salud de Brasil. Así selló una importante alianza entre la empresa y el gobierno.
El principal plan incluye construir una planta de biotecnología para la producción de vacunas en Pernambuco. La inversión alcanzaría los u$s 500 millones.
En una primera etapa, esta unidad producirá tres antígenos de proteínas recombinantes que constituyen una vacuna innovadora contra la meningitis B. Estiman que esta facility entrará a operar en 2014.
Además Novartis busca reforzar la investigación en el desarrollo de productos para las típicas enfermedades tropicales, como el dengue, mal de Chagas y lepra, que también atacan el norte de nuestro país.
La intención de construir la planta de vacunas en el país tropical ya había sido anunciada por el grupo hace cuatro años, pero la crisis financiera mundial había congelado la iniciativa. Pero hoy parecen que se reactivan las grandes inversiones.

Desde 1937 la multinacional mantiene una fábrica en Taboão da Serra, Grande São Paulo. Tiene otra de síntesis química en Rezende–y se destaca por ser la única extranjera que sintetiza materia prima en Brasil. Tiene otra en Cambé, controlada por Sandoz.

Según relata Valor Económico, Jimenez está frente a un gran desafío ya que Novartis está cerca de perder la patente de uno de sus dos principales blockbusters en Estados Unidos. Se trata de Diovan.

Novartis choses Brazil, não Argentina

The Swiss laboratory Novartis seeks to continue expanding its business in Latin America. Now, its eyes are on Brazil. This was announced by Joe Jimenez, CEO of the company in an interview for the Brazilian magazine “Valor Economico”.
“Brazil is one of the main countries for Novartis investment. The reason is here the economy is growing and we notice the access to health care of middle class is rising”, Jimenez explained to the journalist Monica Scaramuzzo.

Last November, the company signed a letter of intent with the Brazilian Health Ministry. There, an important alliance was sealed between the company and the government.
The main plan includes the building of a biotechnology plant for vaccine production in Parnambubo. The investment could reach u$s 500 million.
In the first stage, this unit will produce three protein antigens combined, which means an innovative vaccine against meningitis B. They estimate this facility will start operations in 2014.
Besides, Novartis looks to reinforce the research in product development for the typical tropical sicknesses, like dengue, Chagas disease, and lepra, which also attack the north of our country.
The intention to build this vaccine plant in the tropical country had already been announced by the group four years ago, inspite of the global financial crisis froze the initiative. But today, it seems that the great investment reactivates.
